According to the Gifu Prefecture Ordinance for prevention of mountain accidents in Gifu Prefecture, submission of a Mountain Climbing/Hiking Notification is mandatory for those climbing/hiking in the Northern Alps and volcano region (Mt. Ontake, Mt. Yakedake, Mt. Hakusan, and Mt. Norikura).
For details, please check the page concerning the ordinance for prevention of mountain accidents in Gifu Prefecture.
For information on the mountains on the Gifu Prefecture side, please refer to the website of the Gifu Prefectural Police.
Shiradashizawa, the trailhead leading to the top of Mt. Oku-Hotaka from the Gifu Prefecture side, has been repaired by installing ladders and safety chains because the previous trail collapsed due to an earthquake in July 2020.
In particular, the stretch between Jutaro Bridge and Kosekizawa has become craggy and subject to frequent falling rocks, so great caution is necessary.
*As of June 16, 2023, the Jutaro Bridge has not yet been put in place due to lingering snow.
Please note that the bridge cannot be crossed when the water level is high.
The trail above Nitsuguzawa becomes unclear, and the area contains an extremely large number of loose rocks.
Although the route has become passable, climbers must recognize that it is a variation route. Helmets are recommended, and this route is not recommended for beginners.
